Youth Center Mission

To build a Youth Center in Grand Rapids' central city will ensure inner city and other youth, without regard to race, the broadest possible access to year-round, comprehensive educational, recreational and cultural programs aimed at building a healthier community.

Building Design and Location

This beautiful, contemporary approximately 45,000 square foot building will be built on a vacant parcel of land next to the Sheldon Complex. Its unique design makes the best use of the property while fulfilling the mission for comprehensive services. The land will be leased form the City for the life of the building and the architectural design has been donated.

Youth Center Programs

Education:

Tutoring mentoring, computer training, library services, job training, job seeking skills, field trips, parental involvement and scholarships

Culture:

Multi-culture art, music, theater, history and drama

Health:

Appropriate health care services

Recreation:

Basketball, hockey, soccer, volleyball, ping pong, roller skating and tennis

Counseling:

Child abuse and neglect, delinquency, conflict resolution, peer pressure, leadership, substance abuse and advocacy
